Create Stunning Tag Clouds from Your Text Files

I want to share with you a free tool available online to help you analyse your qualitative research.   Imagine this, you have finished all your groups and now you have pages of transcribed text.  How can you find out which topics or words have been mentioned most often?  Head over to Wordle, and plug in your text and it will produce a lovely tag cloud (or word cloud) for you similar to the one shown below.   The larger the word the more often it is mentioned.

You can also use this program to analyse other types of text, you can paste in all your responses from open ended questions in your quantitative questionnaire, or type in a web address and it will produce a tag cloud based on the website, which is a great way to pick up common themes when you are mining blogs.  The tag cloud below is based on this website.

This does not mean you won’t have to read all your open end responses, but it will give you an idea of the key themes that are coming out.  Not to mention a great talking point include in your results presentation.
